Distilled Water/Isotonic BeveragesDistilled Water:Distilled water, also called soft water, is water that was purified and de-ionised by distillation. In the case of distillation, the water evaporates, condenses and is collected in a container. The salts previously contained in the water remain as a residue. For this reason, distilled water is hardly conductive. It is very hypotonic (see below) and must not be drunk (danger to life)! Before distillation, one drop contains approx. 1000000000000000000 particles (ions) and the aim of multiple distillations is to remove almost all of these particles.
Isotonic Beverages:IIsotonic beverages are drinks that contain minerals and water and, if necessary, flavours, vitamins, sugar, sweetener or carbon dioxide as well. There are not only isotonic, but also hypotonic beverages. What is the difference? Isotonic means 'same pressure' in Greek. This signifies that the isotonic beverage has the same amount of dissolved particles as the blood and for that reason, it can be taken in by the body very easily. Hypotonic beverages have a lower concentration of particles and therefore they are taken in during physical exertion better and faster than isotonic drinks. In general, isotonic beverages only help the producer. There is a small positive effect, but this doesn’t justify the high prices. Tap or mineral water replaces the liquid lost during sports just as well and is much cheaper and more wholesome. |
