Industrial Sewage
For the production of products like paper or leather, factories need water. Industrial wastewater is composed very differently, depending on the branch of industry. For bleaching paper, chlorine is used; for curing leather, chrome is required. Both substances have a very damaging effect on all living creatures, and should not get into the environment with the water.
Anyone who pollutes water harms him- or herself! Therefore, it is forbidden to discharge sewage containing harmful substances directly into the river.
In order to keep the concentration of hazardous substances as low as possible, the water is treated at the factory. Some factories even have their own treatment plants for that purpose. The best way to protect the environment, however, is to use more environmentally friendly production methods. In this way, the amount of wastewater and the pollution of the environment decreases. |
