Discharge Rates

Author: E.E. Kimberly

Most lead-acid storage batteries made by reputable manufacturers may safely be discharged at any current which they are capable of producing. However, the ampere-hours obtainable from a battery are greater at a low rate of discharge for a long time than at a high rate for a short time. This difference exists because the voltage drops faster at the higher rate. The ampere-hour capacity rating of a lead-acid battery is usually referred to an 8-hour discharge time.
