Air Resistance

The air resistance depends on the shape of an object.

We had a set of different shapes:

We measured the air resistance according to the following principle:

The experiments yielded these results:

Shape 1 had the least air resistance. This shape can be seen in birds and airplanes.

Shape 2 had the second-lowest air resistance, as whirls behind the sphere occurred. This shape resembles soap bubbles or balls.

Shape 3 had the highest air resistance of the four shapes. Parachutes have a similar shape. They cause a skydiver during a jump to slow down. Airplanes that land on aircraft carriers are slowed down by a parachute as well. Shape 4 had the second-highest air resistance.
