Example 3: Tangent Plane

Find the equation of the tangent plane to

z = 1 + sin(2x + 3y)

at the point (0, 0). We have

At the point (0,0),

z = 1 + sin(0 + 0) = 1,

The equation of the tangent plane is z - 1 = 2(x - 0) + 3(y - 0), or z = 2x + 3y + 1.
