Example 5: Vector and Scalar Equation For a Plane
Find the vector and scalar equations for the plane with position and normal vectors P = 3i - j - 2k, N = i + j + 4k. We first compute N · P, N · P = 1 · 3 + 1 · (-1) + 4 · (-2)= -6. A vector equation is (i + j + 4k) · X = -6. A scalar equation is x + y + 4z = -6. The plane is shown in Figure 10.5.6. Figure 10.5,6
