Coaxial Cables as Circuit Elements

Wave-reflection phenomena were considered in the preceding chapter; corresponding phenomena may exist on coaxial cables. An open-wire line is a balanced unshielded transmission circuit, and a coaxial cable is an unbalanced shielded circuit; in other respects they are fundamentally the same.

From this it follows that the explanations, diagrams and equations of the preceding chapter apply in general to coaxial cables. Sections of coaxial cables, therefore, can be used as inductors, capacitors, transformers, etc.
